ABOUT THE WEBINAR:
The world has entered the Industrial Revolution 4.0, which is marked by increasing connectivity, interaction, and diminishing boundaries between humans and machines, and all are converging through information and communication technology. It creates a manufacturing industry landscape that is more efficient and globally competitive.
In paralel, the world has recognized the need for energy transition, from fossil energy to renewable energy, to limit Green House Gas emission. Society engagement in renewable energy drives industry to commit to using more renewable energy in their supply chain. Membership of RE100 keeps growing, more people install solar roof top. On transportation sector, government encourage and incentivize the use of electric vehicles. It means, EV charging station will be available everywhere, soon.
Technology advancement drives the price of solar panel reduced significantly, followed by smart inverters price, and battery price. The result of recent IPP tender in some countries, electricity price from solar farm is lower than, or at least at par with, the Coal fired Power Plant. This also happens with wind turbine.
Government of Indonesia (GoI) is committed to Paris Agreement, to achieve energy mix in electricity 23% from Renewable Energy on 2025. To achieve this target, several GW solar farm and wind farm could be expected to connect to the system. Two wind farms with the total 140 MW and 20 MWp solar farm already connected to Sulawesi grid. PLN already tendered (Floating) Solar farm IPP 145 MW in Jawa and 50 MW in Bali. PLN plans to ten der several solar farms for Sumatera and Kalimantan.
PLN succeeded to solve the problems of interconnecting wind farms and solar farm in Sulawesi, that emeged in early days. This creates confidence that PLN grid could host significant capacity of Variable Renewable energy. However, new ways of system operations should be improved, and the SCADA EMS (Energy Management System) should be equiped with new features, among others: weather forecast for predicting Solar energy and Wind energy,
Mr. Suroso Isnandar will present how PLN’s SCADA EMS at present and at the near future, will enable the PLN grid (Jawa Bali, Sumatera, Sulawesi) to hosting significant capacity of Variable Renewable Energy, Ministry MEMR is preparing regulation for to encurage electricity user to install roof top Solar PV. Recently, more customer (residential, commercial and industry) is enthusiastic to install roof top solar PV. Mostly, it is motivated by enviromental concern. For industry and commercial electricity user, the label of green industry (RE100) or green building is important for company sustainability.
Connection of these Distributed Energy Resource (DER) to Distribution grid is affecting (postively and negatively) performance of electricity delivery. GoI is also encouraging the development of electric vehicles, including EV Charging Station. Dozens of EV Charging Station are already installed by PLN. GoI is preparing regulation to encourage private sector to provide AEV Charging Station.
SCADA DMS (Distribution Management System) is an extremely useful tool for Distribution Grid Operator and has been used since 1980s. Its capacity and capability have been enlarged as the distribution grid expand and the load growing. However, Distribution operator need to be aware of several gamechangers that comes up: (1) Recent development in Smart Meter/Advanced Metering Infrastructures enables Distribution Operator to acquiring large amount of data of each customers. (2) Distributed Energy Resources, that also include VRE (Variabel Energy Resources). And (3) EV Charging Station, either at home or at commercial area. Mr. Evy Haryadi, PLN’s Chief of Center of Excellence will present how PLN see the (near) future of PLN SCADA DMS. From the point of view Renewable Energy, the idea of National Super Grid is interesting because it enables sharing renewable energy between grids with different time-zone. When interconnection between grids materialized, a National SCADA EMS will be needed.
DR Nanang Haryanto will present what kind of National SCADA EMS is needed, how it will interact with SCADA EMS of each grid, and how the interaction between SCADA EMS and SCADA DMS.
